CQH's 60th Season
Camp Quaker Haven's
60th Church Camp Season!

2010 marks 60 years that Mid America Friends Churches have met at Camp Quaker Haven for camp.  The first camp was in 1917, held at various locations for the first 34 years, but the first camps held at Camp Quaker Haven were in 1950 after the property was purchased by Kansas Yearly Meeting in 1949.

Here is the first paragraph from the report on that camp...

"On July 17, 1950, enthusiastic boys and girls from over Kansas Yearly Meeting began pouring into Quaker Haven, (186 full registrations plus 27 partial and 26 workers, for a total of 236) for the first camp on our own grounds.  Many exclamations of joy were heard as the Juniors looked into the beautiful valley below, and much appreciation was shown for God's handiwork as we viewed it from the hilltop."

Also included in the notes are:

  • Mrs. McFarland from Friendswood prepared meals
  • Hershel Thornburgh gave chalk talks and played piano for all services
  • Aldean Pitts led the singing and was in charge of the fun period
  • Delbert Vaughn  brought the evening messages

Many witnessed to the fact that they had been definitely saved, many reclaimed and a large number sanctified.  There'll never be another camp like Camp Quaker Haven, July 21,1950, but if Jesus doesn't come before next year, we are looking forward to another blessed camp.

Matt Macy double checked with long-time CQH Board Chair Daryl Pitts to make sure this was accurate and he said "yes this will be our 60th camping season.  The 1950 camp is still indelible in my mind because it was there as a sixteen year old boy my life was changed forever.  I just thank God for allowing me the privilege to serve Him at this blessed place for these past 11 years."
